Lido and Pellestrina with the kids in the summer

Venice’s city centre gets very hot in summer, so why not visit the city when there is less heat and choose cooler itineraries during the hottest hours? Boat trips to the islands in the lagoon, walks in the natural oasis, a day at the beach in Lido and, why not, a lovely bike ride to enjoy your stay in an original way!

You cannot ride a bike in the calli and campi in Venice or you risk being fined, but bikes are ideal to visit some of the islands such as Lido, Pellestrina and Sant’Erasmo. Surround yourselves by magnificent scenery along cycle paths far away from the busiest itineraries.

The Lido is one of Venetians favourite destinations in summer. Its beaches are charming and elegant and the seabed slopes down gradually thanks to the San Nicolò and Alberoni barriers, so children can take a dip safely. The shape and colour of the many beach huts vary according to the resort, and are nowadays equipped to guarantee a holiday in complete comfort. There are also nurseries and kiddies’ entertainment services and, thanks to the removal of architectural barriers, everybody can now enjoy the beach.
The Bluemoon resort is located near the Santa Maria Elisabetta waterbus stop and is equipped with beach bar terrace, self-service restaurant, concert area, beach cinema, bazaar, beach umbrellas for rent, showers and toilets.

For those who want to enjoy the sunshine and the sea in peace and quiet, the sandy beaches of  San Nicolò, Alberoni or Murazzi are ideal. The Alberoni is a WWF protected oasis and is very picturesque due to its unspoilt features. It is, in fact, the ideal habitat for a number of sea birds such as the European bee-eaters or the Kentish plover in addition to the more common little egrets or seagulls. Guided tours and kiddies’ events are organised between April and October.

Another area of outstanding beauty is the Ca' Roman nature reserve, which is connected to Pellestrina by the artificial “Murazzi” dam. Ca' Roman still preserves one of the most unspoilt beaches in the whole of the upper Adriatic and, despite being quite small, it has an extraordinarily rich fauna - it is in fact located on one of the most important migration routes in Italy that many species of birds use in autumn and spring to rest and feed before continuing their journey. The Reserve organises guided tours and events for the whole family.
